  • About Our Director | Dr. Phillips High School Orchestra Program | Orlando

    About our Orchestra Director Photo credit to Mrs. Caitlin Schellhammer ​ Ms. Raine Hollingsworth is the director of orchestras at Dr. Phillips High School, the conductor of the Overture Strings ensemble with the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra in Orlando, FL, the Adjudication Chair of the Florida Orchestra Association Executive Board, and the President of the American String Teachers Association, Florida Chapter. In 2011, she earned her Bachelor's in Instrumental Music Education, and in 2015, she earned her Master's in Music Education, both from the Florida State University, both Magna Cum Laude. Following graduation and work in the classroom, Ms. Hollingsworth continued contributing to the field of music education by partnering with OCPS to develop and publish Curriculum Resource Materials for middle and high school directors. She has also been published by the American String Teachers Association’s “The String Section”, with her article entitled “Student Leadership: It’s For Your Program, Too!”. In the summer of 2018, she was nominated to the Florida Music Educators Association’s Summer Institute. In 2022 & 2023, Ms. Hollingsworth was asked to contribute to the FMEA think tank “Visioning Resilience for Music Education in the State of Florida”, and attend the FSMA Leadership Summit. Ms. Hollingsworth is also a frequent presenter at professional development conferences, such as county in-service clinics, the FLASTA/FOA Fall Professional Development Conference, the FMEA Professional Development Conference, and the Midwest International Band & Orchestra Conference, where she has given presentations on topics like teacher burnout, pedagogical diagnostic techniques, the relationship between the bow and tempo, and methods for student-led sight-reading. Ms. Hollingsworth has over a decade of experience in the classroom, and is a highly-sought after conductor, clinician, intern supervisor, & presenter throughout the nation. The orchestras under her direction consistently receive Superior and Outstanding ratings at both district and state events, and are active in the community through arts outreach performances.

    TalkingPoints Messaging System Per OCPS policy, beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, all communications between OCPS employees and students, parents, or any other community stakeholders, must take place through TalkingPoints. ​ Students and parents have already been registered on TalkingPoints by registering with Dr. Phillips High School and being assigned to an orchestra class.   • Orchestra Events | DPHS Orchestra

    Annual Orchestra Events Each year, though the extracurricular performance offerings may vary from year to year, there are a set of performance opportunities that students and parents can expect each year. They are listed below along with information sheets. ​ ORCHESTRA CONCERTS There are four concerts per year: the Fall Concert in October, the Winter Concert in December, the Pre-MPA Concert in February, and the Spring Concert in late April/early May. All concerts begin at 7pm. Students and parents can check specific dates on our c alendar page. ​ SOLO & ENSEMBLE Each year in February, high school orchestra students may participate in District Solo & Ensemble through the Florida Orchestra Association. Students must sign up through their director. A sample participant contract and a page of helpful tips can be found below: ​ ​ ​ ​ MUSIC PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT Each year, every orchestra in the DPHS Orchestra Program participates in Music Performance Assessment. This is an adjudicated (scored) event where each ensemble performs for a panel of three certified judges and is graded based on their overall stage performance & sight-reading abilities. The scores assigned can be: Superior (1), Excellent (2), Good (3), Fair, (4), Poor (5).
