Hello, Orchestra Students & Families!
Message from the Director
MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR Happy Monday! I have many accolades to share with you from our orchestra department!
On November 7th, several orchestra students traveled to WKMG News 6 Studios to record holiday music for News 6's annual "Sounds of the Season" broadcast: check out News 6 on Christmas Day to see our Dr. Phillips students in action, bringing holiday cheer to our community! Also, this past weekend, we had several students represent Dr. Phillips High School at the 2023 All-County Orchestra concert! I am pleased to announce their names here: Sophia Anderson, cello Issel Arismendi, violin Sofia Brandt, violin Nathan Chen, violin Matthew Iverson Baptiste, bass Jasmine Lewis, viola Haven McClean, viola William McNarney, viola ***Also accepted: Nicholas Shikano, violin Dublin Steding, bass In addition to these wonderful students representing us at the district level, the following students will represent our school and our district at the 2024 Florida Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference & All-State Concerts! Winter Concert & Ticket Sales
Our Winter Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 7th at 7pm in our Performing Arts Center on south campus. We will be charging admission- ALL TICKET SALES MUST BE PLACED ONLINE, either prior to the concert or at the door. No cash payments will be accepted.
Fair Share
FAIR SHARE: At this time, any student who has not paid their Fair Share will have the amount added to their obligations. Fair Share payments can still be made here: https://www.drphillipsorchestras.com/make-a-payment Fair Share for the 23-24 school year is $100. Parents can make a $50 or $100 payment on SchoolPay at the link above. Fair Share for the 22-23 school year was $60. Parents can make that payment at the same link above. Please send the SchoolPay receipt(s) to raine.allen@ocps.net in order to have your Fair Share payment confirmed with our records.
Nationals

Remaining Dates for the 23-24 School Year
Tuesday, December 5th, 7pm- Winter Orchestra Concert Thursday, February 22nd, 7pm- Pre-MPA Concert Thursday, February 29th-Saturday, March 2nd (one of these dates)- Music Performance Assessment
Spring Break- Orchestra Nationals Friday, April 26th, 7pm- Spring Concert
Remaining VPA Recitals & Excused Absence Form
Magnet Students are required to wear their VPA Polos all day on recital days in order to receive full recital credit. This year, being in uniform and attending recitals will be a grade for VPA Magnet students. Being tardy or out of uniform will result in a lower grade. Missing the recital without first submitting an "Excused Absence Application" form will result in a F for that recital grade. Remaining VPA Recital Dates for this year (also available digitally at Calendar): Wednesday, January 17th- 1:30pm Wednesday, February 7th- 1:30pm Wednesday, March 13th- 1:30pm Monday, May 6th- 2:30pm (Seniors only, dress rehearsal) Tuesday, May 7th- 7:00pm
